When I first tried to boot the machine, I thought it's dead. Not because of the sound of it (the HD makes straaaange noises :-), but because the boot hanged. The bulkhead LED showed different numbers, and the console was full of error-messages.

Then I got familiar with the switches of the front-panel. And the bulkhead. And the possible troubles with different controllers on the qbus. And, and... Many thanks to the people on vmsnet.pdp-11 and comp.sys.dec.micro!
Okay... the qbus is clear... (as you can see, I used the Linux-terminal programm called "minicom" to connect to the VAX. I now have a VT320, which is the proper choice for a console terminal :-)
I took out most of the cards, especially the RQDX3, that was responsible for the dual floppy drive. I have no floppies, no tape coupler, no SMD controller now... but the system sees the HD at last! What I'd like to have is the standing envelope for the BA23. It's somewhat sad to see a VAX crawling in the dust on the floor... ;-O

Well, no whistles and bells... I just wanted to share my feelings (and photos) with you :-) Thanks to András Nyírõ and Internettó for the digital camera!

Back the begining!
