My motto is "let's combine pleasure with what needs to be done", and this visit to Szeged (or Szegedin) in Southern-Hungary was a clear case of this concept. My girlfriend had to go there to take an exam, and of course I accompanied her. But: sitting in the hallway of a college is rather boring so after she went in (the exam took two and a half hours!), I took off, heading for the nearest tram stop...
It was a sunday, so there was hardly any traffic on the roads. This also meant that I had to wait a while until the first tram came in sight. This is "home-made articulated" number 810.
And this is a bus, just because I was bored :-)
A nice alley with...
... tracks in a horrible shape. Those "home-made" Bengalis can do bad things to the rails!
Bengali number 814.
At the stop.
Number 812 cometh...
Trams look huge from this perspective :)
Terminus of route 4 at Tarján.
Dugonics tér. This place has been rebuilt since then.
Number 809 looking a bit worn-out.
A traversing that's no longer there...
A junction...
... which is a start of a triangle. This track went forth originally...
... but that branch was abandoned long ago. Of course they picked out the rails, but that couldn't stop some trams from going further accidentaly...
Number 807 waiting at the temporary stop of route 3. The proper place for it is on the other side of the square, but the reconstruction works had already started by this and the rails were cut back.
Route 3 is a one-track line with bypasses...
... and the outer terminus being out in the rim. Once the route went even further, but then it was cut back to Postás sporttelep.
A few months after my visit route 3 was shortened, and this section was abandoned. A closure like this is quite common here, BUT: this is not the end of the story!
